Gr. 12 Literacy Assessments
A reminder that grade 12’s have upcoming literacy assessments, designed to measure students鈥 ability to use reading, writing, and critical thinking skills in real-world contexts. The assessment focuses on communicating effectively, analyzing information, and responding thoughtfully to a variety of texts. Successfully completing the Literacy Assessment is a graduation requirement.
Grade 12: January 29, 2026
On your specified assessment date, please arrive no later than 8:15 am. There is a late start that day, however to allow enough time for your assessment you must come at 8:15 with the exam set to begin at 8:25 am.

We will be hosting Vancouver College for our annual Jazz Day on January 27, taking place after school. This collaborative event will bring together student musicians for a focused afternoon of learning and performance.
This event offers a unique opportunity for musical growth and connection from a fellow Christian Brother school!

With February almost upon us, planning is well underway for the upcoming Ultimate season. There will be some pre-tryout training sessions in the coming weeks, with tryouts beginning the second week of February.
Anyone interested (grades 8-12, coed) should join the Google classroom (code: cubiqqr) to stay up to date.
Mathematics Contests
Attention math enthusiasts!
Get ready to challenge yourself, build your problem-solving skills, and represent our school in exciting math competitions offered by the University of Waterloo鈥檚 Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC). Waterloo strongly encourages participation in these contests for students who are considering applying to one of their STEM faculties.
There are a variety of upcoming contests available for students in Math 8-12 courses (scroll down to Save the Date section for more contests). Students should choose the contest that corresponds to the math course they are currently enrolled in, not necessarily their grade level for students who have accelerated.
Pascal Contest (Math 9), Cayley Contest (Foundations & Pre-Calculus 10), and Fermat Contest (Pre-Calculus 11).
These contests will be held on Wednesday, February 25, in Room 115, starting at 2:50 pm.

27th Annual Alumni Basketball Tournament
The Alumni Basketball Tournament is happening this weekend! It’ll be a full day of basketball that spans generations of 天美传媒 alumni.
In addition to the basketball games, you are also more than welcome to join us for:
FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL – Friday night is our Alumni social in the multipurpose room. Call your Alum crew and come connect while enjoying a wide range of basketball. Drinks and pizza will be available in the multi-purpose room.
SATURDAY FAMILY DAY – We will have a bouncy castle, refreshments, food, basketball hoops for kids, and more setup in the multipurpose room. Bring your kids and spouse to make this day a fun one for the entire family!

After School Academic Support
Want to excel in academics? Need extra help with school assignments? Doing well in your courses and wanting to help others succeed? If ‘Yes” to any of these then, After School Academic Support is the right place for you.
The After School Academic Support offers a wide range of support to students who need help in completing their homework assignments and preparing for any upcoming assessments. Our academically excelling Tutors support their peers and help them to be confident and do well in their academics. Also, Peer Tutors get their Service Hours for the hours that they have tutored. The program runs throughout the year on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45 – 3:45 pm at the Learning Commons. You are free to attend any/all of the days depending on your own schedule.
If you are interested in Peer Tutoring or getting some academic support, then show up at 2:45 – 3:45 pm in the Learning Commons (sign-up can also be done any time of the year during session).

Euclid Math Contest
Written annually by over 25 000 participants worldwide, the Euclid Contest gives senior-level secondary school students the opportunity to solve innovative problems using their creativity and all of the knowledge they have gained in secondary school mathematics.
The Contest鈥檚 mix of short-answer and full-solution questions provides participants with an opportunity to effectively communicate their thinking. Additionally, the final questions in the Euclid are some of the most complex and challenging among all our contests, helping participants build perseverance, a key component of mathematical problem-solving.
The Euclid Contest (Pre-Calculus 12 and/or Calculus 12) will take place on Tuesday, March 31, from 8:30 am to 11:00 am in the library.

Gauss Math Contests
The Gauss Contest is organized by the University of Waterloo.
Intriguing problems and a multiple-choice format make the Gauss contests a wonderful opportunity for all participants to grow their interest in and curiosity about the power of math.
No sign-up is required. All Grade 8 students will write the contest during a math class on a date between May 11鈥22 selected by their math teacher.
